CNN —Mementoes from the personal collection of British photographer and model Pattie Boyd, who inspired a raft of famous songs by former husbands George Harrison and Eric Clapton, are going under the hammer. An anonymous love letter to Boyd from Clapton sent in 1970. Christie’s Images Ltd 2024Among the items on offer is a love letter written by Clapton in 1970, when Boyd was already married to Harrison, one of the songwriter’s close friends. However, Clapton and Boyd would split in 1987 after their relationship was affected by “substance abuse and infidelities,” reads the press release. Items up for sale include photos of Boyd, Harrison and Clapton, as well as postcards, telegrams and letters.

I am proud that my country and my church are both committed to the noble ideal of inclusion. All people must share in all rights. We couldn’t dare to claim to be “one nation under God” if it were otherwise. Yet society and the church are falling short of this noble ideal. By accepting one dominant cultural narrative that presumes to define those who are “excluded,” we are ignoring those who don’t tidily fit into the prevailing cultural story line.

A literary honor will now carry the name of a uniquely successful author: the Michelle Obama Award for Memoir. On Wednesday, Penguin Random House announced the retitling of the prize in its decades-old Creative Writing Awards program, which also includes categories named for Amanda Gorman (poetry) and Maya Angelou (spoken word). Each year, the Obama prize will provide a $10,000 college scholarship to a high school senior in public school, based on an autobiographical English-language composition. “I know firsthand how nerve-wracking it can be to share the most intimate stories from your life with the world,” Obama said in a statement released by Penguin Random House. “But after publishing my memoir ‘Becoming,’ I’ve learned that writing your own story can be a powerful tool.
